The FMCSA announced a proposal for a new rule that will determine the safety fitness of motor
carriers. The rule would enhance the FMCSA’s ability to identify non-compliant carriers.
FMCSA Announces Final ELD Rule
On December 10th, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced its long-awaited final rule requiring that interstate drivers use electronic recording devices intended to enforce hours-of-service regulations, and reduce driver fatigue and paperwork for motor carriers and drivers.
The ELD rule will be implemented in several phases between February 16, 2016 to December 16, 2019.
DISA Acquires Prime
DISA is pleased to announce its recent acquisition of Prime Information Center (Prime). Established for over 25 years, Prime is well known across the Gulf Coast Region as a leading provider of background screening services.
Like DISA, Prime’s core business has been centered in the oil and gas and petrochemical industries. The company has been an approved provider for the Houston Area Safety Council’s NABSC program since its inception, and is also mandated by the Corpus Christi Safety Council. Joining forces with Prime allows us to expand the scope of our background screening services to the energy sector, while increasing our coverage in other market sectors.
Marathon Announces Revisions to Contractor-Employee Background Screening Program
Marathon Petroleum Company LP (“MPC”) is revising certain elements of its Refining Contractor-Employee Background Security Check Program (the “Program”) in order to standardize Program requirements across MPC Refineries and expand contractor options to select a third-party background security check provider (“Background Check Provider”) of their choice. MPC is confident that, following inevitable challenges associated with any initial implementation period, these changes will make it easier for contractors to comply with the Program, while improving the overall safety of the work environment at MPC Refineries.
