Substance Abuse Training

DISA understands the importance of proper and effective training. Our instructors are experienced and knowledgeable. They provide clients with the in-depth training needed to successfully implement and manage their employee screening programs.

DER/Communicator (Free of Charge)

The Designated Employer Representative (DER) is the person responsible for receiving their company's drug and alcohol test results. The DER is also responsible for communicating substance abuse policy and program requirements to company employees. This comprehensive course educates the DER/Communicator on related duties, program administration, forms, procedures, and rules and regulations. DER/Communicator Training is offered in several ways including online, classroom and teleconference.

Supervisor Awareness

This course details the physical, behavioral, speech and performance indicators of probable substance abuse (drugs/alcohol) and covers supervisor guidelines associated with reasonable suspicion testing. This 3-hour session complies with DOT regulations and is offered in several ways:

  • Online through DISAWorks®
  • CD Version
  • Classroom setting at DISA or client facilities

Employee Education Training

This course provides employees with detailed information about the risks associated with alcohol and substance abuse. This one hour course fulfills consortium and DOT requirements. Employee Education Training is offered in a classroom setting at DISA or client facilities.

Drug and Alcohol Collector Training: Breath Alcohol

DISA offers classroom-style training for Breath Alcohol Technicians that is mandatory for all collectors who conduct Breath Alcohol Collections. The Department of Transportation's (DOT) rule 49 CFR Part 40 describes required procedures for conducting workplace drug and alcohol testing for the federally regulated transportation industry. This course covers 49 CFR Part 40.213 requirements for alcohol collections using an EBT device. Students understand the regulations and how to follow the established testing procedures upon completion of this course, proficiency collections and written exam. Students are certified to utilize either the Alco-Sensor IV Blue Dot Device or the Alco-Sensor IV Black Dot Device.

Drug and Alcohol Collector Training: Specimen Collection

DISA offers classroom-style training for specimen collectors that is mandatory for all collectors who conduct Urine Test Collections. The Department of Transportation's (DOT) rule 49 CFR Part 40 describes required procedures for conducting workplace drug and alcohol testing for the federally regulated transportation industry. This course covers 49 CFR Part 40.33 requirements for urine collection personnel. Students understand the regulations and how to follow the established testing procedures upon completion of this course, proficiency collections and written exam.

Staying on Top of DOT Regulations 

This course includes an overview of the major elements in 49 CFR Part 40 and point of collections testing. This 4-hour course is offered in a classroom setting.
