What does NABSC stand for?
NABSC stands for the North American Background Screening Consortium. It is an industry background screening program designed to help contractor employers meet standardized screening requirements for participating owner sites.
The program supports reciprocity by allowing an eligible contractor employee’s screening status to apply across participating NABSC sites, subject to each owner’s requirements. This reduces repeated screening and helps contractors move qualified employees between sites more efficiently.
Is DISA a certified NABSC provider?
Yes. DISA is a certified NABSC Consortium Third-Party Administrator. DISA supports contractor enrollment, employee background screening, status reporting, and ongoing program administration.
Contractors that select DISA for NABSC also gain access to participating owner sites within DISA’s broader background screening consortium. This gives contractors greater value from one provider and one screening program.
Is NABSC the same as DISA’s background screening consortium?
No. NABSC is an industry consortium that allows contractors to select from multiple certified screening providers. Its screening results support access to participating NABSC owner sites when the employee meets each site’s requirements.
DISA also operates DCC Background Screening, a larger contractor background screening consortium used by additional owner sites. Contractors that select DISA receive access to participating NABSC sites and DCC Background Screening sites through one provider, subject to applicable owner requirements.
Why should a contractor choose DISA for NABSC?
DISA provides broader reciprocity than NABSC participation alone. When DISA administers a contractor’s NABSC program, eligible employees receive access to participating NABSC sites and participating DCC Background Screening owner sites.
This broader network helps contractors reduce duplicate screenings, separate provider relationships, and added administrative work. It also supports faster crew movement between participating sites and keeps more productive time on the job.
Does one NABSC screen provide access to every site?
No. Each owner establishes its own site-access criteria, acceptable screening grade, expiration period, and other eligibility requirements. An employee must meet the requirements established by the specific owner site.
Reciprocity reduces repeated screening where requirements align, but it does not guarantee access to every site. DISA helps contractors understand and manage the requirements for participating NABSC and DCC Background Screening owners.
I was told I need NABSC. Can I use any provider?
Yes. Participating owners require NABSC, but contractors typically choose which qualified provider administers their program. Choosing DISA provides the added benefit of broader reciprocity across participating DISA owner sites, reducing the need for multiple programs when crews work across different facilities.
