DISA Global Solutions turned 40 this October, and we have plenty to celebrate!
Since our incorporation in 1986, we’ve grown alongside the employers who count on us to help them make informed hiring decisions, manage compliance, and build safer workplaces.
And behind it all are generations of DISA employees, clients, and partners who have helped shape our company.
Growing to Meet Client Needs
As our clients' needs have changed, we’ve continued to build services and technology to meet them.
In 1992, we launched the DISA Contractors Consortium, the industry's first and largest contractor compliance consortium, which established a shared drug testing program for participating contractors and facility owners. Ten years later, we introduced DISAWorks, and shortly after added integrated background screening; our clients now have access to a variety of services through the same platform and a single source.
That idea of becoming a single-source provider for our clients’ compliance needs drove our expansion of capabilities in the years that followed. We added occupational health and mobile and onsite testing in 2008, followed by an expanded suite of transportation compliance services in 2013. Along the way, we added testing options, strengthened our medical review capabilities, and expanded into new geographic regions.
We established our first Canadian office in 2018 and expanded into the Netherlands, Germany, and Sweden through acquisitions in 2023. This year, we have further expanded our occupational health capabilities and continue building the future around our clients’ needs.
Each milestone has brought new colleagues, new knowledge, and more ways to help clients.
Four Decades of Progress
Forty years since we opened our doors, we've grown into one of the industry's most comprehensive providers of workforce compliance solutions, serving more than 72,000 clients, including 30% of Fortune 500 companies, across nearly every major industry.
After planting our roots in the industrial sector by helping oil and gas employers manage drug testing and support safer worksites, we witnessed our clients' needs begin to grow. So, we expanded our capabilities to include background screening, occupational health, and mobile and onsite testing. Those services gave industrial employers more ways to manage workforce requirements through a single provider, and we continue to serve owners, contractors, consortiums, and corporate customers across industrial and critical infrastructure markets today.
In addition to supporting industrial contractors, we now partner with some of the nation's largest transportation and logistics employers, helping them navigate increasingly complex DOT regulations. Over the years, we've expanded well beyond drug testing and background checks to include driver qualification (DQ) file management, continuous monitoring, and other compliance solutions that help employers keep drivers qualified, operations running, and workforces compliant across all DOT-regulated transportation modes.
We work with hospitals, assisted living communities, long-term care facilities, and healthcare systems to provide comprehensive screening, occupational health, and compliance services. From healthcare-specific requirements like professional license verification and sanctions screening to ongoing workforce compliance, our solutions help healthcare organizations maintain qualified, work-ready teams so they can focus on what matters most: delivering quality patient care.
We help colleges and universities manage student and faculty compliance, including the complex requirements of clinical placements and healthcare education programs. As academic and professional requirements evolve, our solutions give students what they need to meet program requirements, complete necessary screenings, and stay on track for clinical placements and their future careers.
Finally, we assist employers across corporate compliance end markets, including staffing agencies, retail organizations, franchises, and professional services. These businesses face different hiring demands, from filling seasonal roles to placing candidates with multiple clients or managing screening across locations. We give these employers a single source for support (with integrated background screening, drug and alcohol testing, and occupational health services) that fits their workforce.
Now, in 2026, workers and employers in the industrial, transportation, healthcare, higher education, and corporate end markets know to trust DISA for their hiring and compliance needs.
Built on Experience and Shared Knowledge
Over the last decade, DISA has acquired more than 35 companies, bringing industry-leading expertise into leadership roles across the company and sharing that experience with our team and clients.
As we share that knowledge with clients, we’ve also partnered with SHRM and HRCI to offer continuing education credits. It’s another opportunity to meet our clients’ needs, by providing educational content that helps them maintain their own professional accreditations.
Our bi-weekly webinars focus on topics from “AI in Background Screening” to “Top DOT Compliance Trends” and “What does Marijuana Rescheduling Mean,” and our goal with them is simple: Help employers understand the latest trends and insights.
At the same time, DISA now hosts the nation's largest employee screening conference. Each year, we bring industry experts together to share practical guidance and learn from one another. That tradition started in 2018, and in 2026, our annual HR Screening, Safety, and Strategy Conference reached a record 1,000 attendees! We were especially proud to celebrate this milestone during our anniversary year.
A Single Source for Compliance Solutions
What started as a drug testing company has become a single-source solution for clients to get their compliance needs met, with our solutions now covering the entire employee lifecycle, from hire to retirement, with accurate and efficient solutions for pre- and post-hire screening.
Alongside drug and alcohol testing, we now offer comprehensive background screening, transportation compliance services such as driver qualification (DQ) file management, and occupational health services.
We help employers keep up with compliance needs throughout an employee’s career; with us, clients can turn to one provider as their workforce grows and their requirements change. When compliance matters, companies choose DISA.
Thank You for Being Part of Our Story
To our employees: thank you for the care, knowledge, and hard work you bring to DISA every day. To our clients and partners: thank you for your trust, your collaboration, and the challenges that push us to keep improving.
We’re proud of what we’ve built together over these 40 years, and we’re excited to keep building on it.
Happy 40th birthday, DISA!
