Work experience verification and reference check
How do you know whether the information in a CV is accurate? Through work experience verification and reference checks, you can confirm a candidate’s employment history and ensure that their experience and qualifications are accurate.
The importance of verifying employment history
DISA surveyed 1,500 people in the Netherlands to better understand how information is presented in CVs. The results show that inaccuracies and exaggerations are more common than many employers realise:
- Employment history (36%)
Previous roles, responsibilities or work experience may be exaggerated or inaccurately represented. - Skills and qualifications (33 %)
Technical skills, certifications and language abilities are often presented as more extensive than they actually are. - Length of previous employment (21 %)
Employment periods may be adjusted to conceal short-term positions or gaps in employment. - Previous employers (12 %)
Information about previous employers may be inaccurate or misleading.
Checks are carried out directly with a current employee or the HR department
If the nominated referee is no longer employed by the organisation, the candidate will be asked to provide contact details for the company’s HR department or another authorised representative to verify the employment.
Do you have any other questions about the verification process?
Why choose DISA for employment verification?
Flexible verification tailored to your needs
You decide how the verification should be carried out. Choose how many referees should be contacted, how far back the verification should go, and which employment details should be verified.
Secure and digital verification process
All reference checks are conducted through DISA’s GDPR-compliant platform. To ensure reliable verification, only business email addresses are accepted for referees, and all communication is digital and traceable.
International employment verification
DISA has extensive experience verifying employment history both in Sweden and internationally. Whether a candidate has worked locally or abroad, employment details can be verified as part of the screening process.
You decide who to hire, DISA verifies the facts
A reference check cannot determine who you should hire. A candidate’s skills, potential and suitability for the role are best assessed by the employer. DISA’s role is to verify factual information about the candidate’s employment history.
This gives you greater confidence that the information on which you base your recruitment decision is accurate.
Examples of employment information that can be verified:
- Employer
- Job title and role
- Employment period
- Other factual information relevant to the position
The content and scope of the verification can be tailored to your organisation’s requirements and preferences.
