How many follow-up tests must I complete?

The DOT requires SAP to schedule at least six tests over a 12-month period of time. This process can continue for up to five (5) years, and each follow-up test must be under direct observation.


What is a Substance Abuse Specialist and what is their role in the Return to Duty Process?

The Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a person who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.


Can I drive while I have a violation?

I am on medication, what do I do?

Provide medication information to the MRO.


What do I do once I have completed my Program?

Once you have completed the SAP Program, contact your employer to proceed with scheduling a Return to Duty test (often called an RTD test).
