Why perform an RTW check?

This check provides a comprehensive and careful check of the right to work. Companies are obliged to keep an up-to-date employee file, even in the case of temporary employment. For this, working documents must be verified.

This is different in every EU country, but that is not a problem for us. We set up the check in such a way that it applies to the country in question. It’s important to emphasise that the RTW check does not involve the verification of the authenticity of documents. Instead, we solely verify whether an individual has the legal right to work in the relevant country.

The regulations about working in different countries change often and quickly. That is why it is difficult to always be aware of the current laws and regulations. At DISA, we are always aware of this and can give appropriate advice that is also focused on the future.

The Right to Work check has a limited period of validity. By using the expiry date, you can set up a reminder in your own systems, ensuring employees always have valid documents.

In addition to the verification of the right to work, the identity document can also be checked. This ID-check contributes to the implementation of the verification obligation for employers.


To fully confirm a person’s identity and ensure that the documents belong to the correct individual, the RTW check must always be conducted in combination with an ID check. This combination allows us to perform a cross-check and reliably verify the employee’s identity. By verifying both the right to work and the identity, we provide a comprehensive and secure solution for employers.

The process of the RTW check looks like this:

  1. Document Collection – The applicant or employee provides the necessary documents.
  2. Authenticity check – The authenticity and validity of the documents are checked.
  3. Comparison with laws and regulations – The documents are checked against the applicable laws and regulations of the country in question.
  4. Results & reporting – The employer receives a clear overview of the findings and recommendations.

DISA fully complies with privacy laws and regulations, such as the GDPR. One of DISA's highest priorities is to process data securely. Automatically deleted after a certain time. This guarantees the privacy of applicants and employees.


Personal data is deleted after 90 days, unless the client applies a different retention period for storing personal data with DISA. The identity document and driving licence are typically kept for 14 days after the completion of the screening. This ensures the privacy of applicants and employees is safeguarded.

It often happens that a company also employs or wants to hire employees from outside the EU. Specific conditions apply to this, which are laid down in the Foreign Nationals Employment Act (WAV). This law states the rights of foreign employees who work in the Netherlands.
