The importance of a diploma check
It goes without saying that you should not lie about a diploma and/or your education. Yet, in practice, it happens that people can pretend to be someone they are not. For example, an article appeared in the AD about an appointed associate professor, who turned out to have no diplomas.

Checking diplomas in the diploma register
By checking a potential employee’s qualifications before the candidate joins the company, an employer can be sure of the candidate’s integrity and that they have the right knowledge.
Since the end of 2012, the national government’s executive organisation for education (DUO) has been managing and checking diplomas in a central diploma register. This diploma register contains information about diplomas, certificates and certificates from all educational institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW).
Sometimes it is a simple A4 document with text and an initial, but often there are also security features to guarantee authenticity. For example, a watermark, a pattern, legalization stamps, holograms, or a special type of paper.

How can you be sure that a diploma has not been forged? Through its partnership with data supplier DUO, DISA can verify information at the source. In addition, a major advantage of direct contact with DUO is the shorter turnaround time of the screening. If a diploma does not exist in the DUO diploma register, DISA will contact the educational institution in question.
