Recently, the integrity of employees has been in the news again. For example, dozens of police officers have been suspended because of integrity issues and violations of official secrecy. They passed on information from police systems to criminals (source: AD). Honest and trustworthy employees are necessary for good business operations. Not just with the police. But, how do you guarantee the integrity of your employees?

To ensure the integrity of employees, many companies opt for employee screening. This is also known as a pre-employment screening. This pre-employment screening reveals abnormalities from a person’s past that are relevant to a person’s work.

 

Recruiting employees with integrity


The verification of, for example, identity documents, work experience and education is often supplemented with an integrity statement. The integrity statement consists of a number of questions related to the integrity of the employee in the past. The questions shall be answered and signed by the person concerned. This makes it a legally valid document. Is there a conflict or inappropriate behaviour in the employment contract? As an employer, you can demonstrate that you have done everything you can to prevent this. After all, all relevant information has been verified prior to employment and you have a signed integrity statement.

Combine a Certificate of Good Conduct with a statement of integrity

In addition to an integrity statement, the Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) is often a fixed part of a pre-employment screening. By combining the integrity statement with a VOG application, you can properly assess whether there is an increased risk of undesirable behaviour. The VOG focuses on recorded criminal history that is relevant to a person’s position. The integrity statement provides more transparency on matters that may be important to an employer. In combination with the VOG, this offers even more certainty when it comes to hiring employees with integrity.
