In 2018, DISA Global Solutions hosted it’s very first ‘Day with DISA’ drug testing symposium. This special event educated employers on the importance of maintaining compliance and drug testing policies within the era of ever-changing marijuana laws. As the second largest drug testing conference in the U.S., a ‘Day with DISA’ aimed to have attendees leave with a better understanding of the current drug testing environment and actionable information to help them form a safer working environment.

Over the past 18 months, DISA Global Solutions has more than tripled our on-site and mobile drug and alcohol collection and testing capabilities. This comes as a result of the successful acquisitions and integrations of Midwest Toxicology Services (MTS), SECON, Forward Edge, Occupational Drug Testing, LLC (ODT), and International Drug Detection, LLC (IDD). The expanded teams and capabilities allow DISA to significantly increase our coverage, capacity, and geographic reach to better serve our valued customers. DISA’s on-site and mobile collections provide greater flexibility and convenience for our clients.

Transportation Compliance

February 04, 2019

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture will begin a hard enforcement of a new permit required for trucks and shippers on May 1, who are located or work in a quarantine zone for Spotted Lanternflies (SLF). The enforcement will include roadside stops by the State Police and Department of Agriculture in Pennsylvania, as well as nearby states who will be checking logs and bills of lading.

On October 29, 2018, DISA Global Solutions hosted its very first ‘Day with DISA’ conference. This drug testing symposium helped educate employers on trending topics in the industry that directly impact workplace safety and compliance. Employers who comply with the Departmentof Transportation (DOT) for their business have specific guidelines and policies that they must follow, which often contradict or cause confusion with the everchanging marijuana legalization laws which vary by state. The symposium helped to address and clarify topics that the DOT specifies, while also clarifying the differences laws with non-DOT employees versus DOT employees.

As workplace positivity rates increase, the growing sophistication of drug testing has led employees to evolve their cheating methods. Enforcing a safe working environment with a drug testing policy that uses tried and true methodologies must be a top priority for employers, particularly those in safety-sensitive industries. It is a widely accepted truth that a workplace is safer when employees are not under the influence of impairing substances. In addition, drug testing is only as good as the quality of the specimen tested. With the opioid epidemic on the rise, increased cocaine and methamphetamine detection, and new laws legalizing recreational or medicinal marijuana in several states, employers are establishing stricter routine to combat a new threat, fake urine.

A Day with DISA was DISA Global Solutions’ first annual drug testing symposium and it welcomed a number of industry experts to present on trending topics and advice for drug testing policies. Employers were able to get a better understanding of the marijuana laws within their state that affect their drug testing programs and hear firsthand why it’s important to create a customized policy to protect their business and employees.
