Hiring Family: Yay or Nay?
Let's chat about working with family and close friends at DISA:
Who's Considered "Family"?
When we say "relatives," we're talking about family members, whether by blood, marriage, or even those close bonds like domestic partnerships and adoptions. This includes your parents, siblings, children, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and even your in-laws and stepfamily.
Hiring Family: Yay or Nay?
We're all about fairness here. If your family member is the best fit for a job, we're open to hiring them. But, we want to make sure everything's on the up-and-up.
What's This "Nepotism" Thing?
Nepotism is when someone might play favorites because of family ties. For example, it might not be cool if a manager gets to decide if their sibling gets a promotion. We want to avoid even the hint of favoritism.
Our Rules to Keep Things Fair:
- Family members shouldn't be in a direct boss-employee relationship.
- We won't move or promote someone into a role where they'd report to a family member.
- If you're part of hiring and a family member applies, it's best to step back from that decision.
What Should You Do?
If you ever find yourself in a situation where you might be working directly under or over a family member, or if you're involved in hiring a relative, give our HR team a shout. We're here to help and make sure everything's smooth. And remember, it's super important to be open about these situations. Keeping it a secret isn't the way to go and could lead to some not-so-fun consequences.
