Medical Leave of Absence (LOA)

Pay During a Medical (or Associated) Leave of Absence

Effective Date: January 1, 2024

Securing Your Income and Health Benefits:

When life calls for you to take a medical leave, DISA has provisions in place to help you manage financially. Starting January 1, 2024, if you've been part of the DISA team for at least a year and have worked 1,250 hours, you could be eligible for Short-Term and potentially Long-Term Disability benefits. To know more about your specific eligibility, your HR Business Partner is just a call away.

During Unpaid Leaves:

If you're on unpaid leave, including the initial 7-day elimination period, we ask you to use your available PTO to cover the cost of your Health & Welfare benefits premiums.

Please note that while on a Leave of Absence (LOA), you won't be eligible for Holiday, Bereavement, or Jury Duty pay, and you won't accrue PTO.

Maintaining Your Coverage:

Those on FMLA leave will maintain their health benefits just like active employees do.

Your Responsibilities:

FMLA and ADA provide job protection, but the leaves are unpaid. It's up to you to ensure that any available earnings, such as PTO or PFML, are used to cover your share of benefits premiums.

If your earnings don't cover the costs, you're responsible for making direct payments to DISA. Remember to clearly mark your payment for benefits and include your name.
Note: You must label the check as “Benefits Premium Payment” and make sure the Employee’s Name is on the Check or Money Order. Send checks to: DISA Global Solutions, 11740 Katy Freeway, Suite 900, Houston TX 77079, attention, Accounts Receivable.

It's vital to keep up with your benefits premiums to prevent any lapse in coverage, especially if payments are more than 30 days late.

Staying on Top of Payments:

If you're unsure how to proceed or you find yourself without enough earnings to cover your premiums, it's essential to act promptly. DISA is here to support you, but we also rely on you to fulfill your end of the arrangement to ensure continuous coverage.
